Lighting up the room,
\nTheir face upon a screen

Lighting up the room,
Their face upon a screen
Behind the fainting plume
Of live and wisping steam

Here, in separate sections
We cannot see each other
Still, we feel a real connection
Though we sometimes buffer

Despite the night grown old
We’ll chat away online.
The tea has since gone cold,
And we’ve started drinking wine.

Daniel Durand is a queer writer hailing from Co. Wicklow. They are a great admirer of Alice Oswald, Seamus Heaney, and Ocean Vuong. Their work is themed around the idea of relationships and the connections that they bring. They have been writing for years, and have afforded more quality writing time during quarantine. They currently live in Dublin where they are studying for a degree in journalism at DCU.
